BULLDOGS ADVANCE TO ROUND TWO OF 2010 WFL PLAYOFFS!!! NEXT GAME IN DES MOINES, IOWA VS DES MOINES BLAZE - SAT. JULY 24, AT 7PM.
DA DAWGS ROLL OVER OKLAHOMA CITY WOLVERINES 55 - 14 BULLDOGS WIN 10TH GAME OF THE 2010 SEASON DURING THE FIRST ROUND OF WFL PLAYOFFS. THE OKLAHOMA CITY WOLVERINES CAME TO DA LOU & DA DAWGS SENT THEM PACKING. BULLDOGS SCORED 27 FIRST HALF POINTS TO REALLY PUT THE GAME OUT OF REACH, ESPECIALLY SINCE DA "BIG D" WAS STOPPING EVERYTHING OKLAHOMA TRIED. THE SECOND HALF SAW DA DAWGS SCORE FOUR MORE TOUCHDOWNS VIA THE GROUND AND AIR. THE DEFENSE WAS TOUGH ALL GAME LONG AND OKLAHOMA ONLY SCORED FROM 1 YARD OUT AND 2 YARDS OUT. ALL DUE TO OUR OFFENSIVE MISTAKES. DA "BIG D" SHUT DOWN EVERY OKLAHOMA DRIVE. FINAL SCORE: BULLDOGS 55 - WOLVERINES 14 STARS OF THE GAME WERE: QB D. JACKSON, RB B. WILLIAMSON, RB C. MING, IRONMAN D. MORRIS, WR T. KING, WR S. WILLIAMS, DB R. WHITTIER, DB C. BURNETT, DB M. DICKERSON, LB J. CRAYTON, LB A. COOPER, LB N. AUSTIN, & LEADING TACKLER M. SULLIVAN. THIS WIN WAS A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT AS MANY OF THE RESERVE PLAYERS ALSO DID A GREAT JOB.
DES MOINES BLAZE - WE COMING FOR YA!!!
______________________________________________________________________________________ BULLDOGS POST VICTORY #190 WITH AN IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER THE RIVER CITY ECLIPSE 31 -13! THE DEFENSE WAS ON POINT ALL GAME LONG AND DIDNT ALLOW THE ECLIPSE TO SCORE A POINT. DA DAWGS SCORED ON THEIR FIRST POSSESSION WITH A 65 YARD TD PASS FROM QB DARREL JACKSON TO WR TONY KING. DA DAWGS USED A BALANCED ATTACK AND SCORED VIA THE GROUND AND THE AIR. HOWEVER, DUE TO A COUPLE OF MISQUES BY THE OFFENSE, THE ECLIPSE WAS ABLE TO GET ON THE BOARD VIA A FUMBLE RECOVERY IN THE ENDZONE. OVERALL, IT WAS A WELL PLAYED GAME WITH VERY FEW PENALITIES AND BOTH TEAMS DISPLAYED GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP.

BULLDOGS BLOW-OUT SPRINGFIELD!!!!!! THE SPRINGFIELD HEADHUNTERS TRAVELED TO "DA LOU" SHORTHANDED WITH PLAYERS AND GOT SMASHED BY THE DAWGS 64-0. THE DAWGS SCORED ON NINE OF TEN POSSESSIONS. BY HALF-TIME, THE GAME WAS OVER, HOWEVER THE DAWGS KEPT POUNDING. IRONMAN MORRIS LEAD THE WAY WITH 3 TDs, WHILE A HOST OF OTHERS SCORED AS WELL. THE BULLDOGS WERE LEAD ON DEFENSE BY LB JAMAR CRAYTON #52, WHO WAS IN ON SOME 12 TACKLES. THE BULLDOGS ORGANIZATION APPRECIATED SPRINGFIELD FOR SHOWING UP AND HONORING THEIR COMMITMENT, HOWEVER, THEY NOW KNOW THE MEANING OF "IRONMAN FOOTBALL".
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- BULLDOGS MOVE TO 6 - 0 ON THE SEASON!
OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS, THE DAWGS HAVE WON CLOSE GAMES. THE ROAD GAME IN MEMPHIS WAS THE BULLDOGS VS ALL THAT MEMPHIS COULD THROW AT THE TEAM. ANYTIME 6/7 TOUCHDOWNS ARE NOT ALLOWED, IT MAKES FOR A VERY DIFFICULT BALL GAME. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED TO US IN MEMPHIS ON 5/29. WE CAN ALL BE VERY PROUD OF EACH OTHER BECAUSE WE HELD IT TOGETHER AND WON THE GAME 20-17. ON 6/5, THE BULLDOGS PLAYED DOWN TO A DECENT TEAM AND ESCAPED BY A SCORE OF 26 - 18. WE ALL LEARNED FROM THAT GAME AS WELL. WE CAN NOT ALLOW A HUNGRY TEAM TO HANG AROUND IN A FAIRLY CLOSE GAME. THE BULLDOGS RETURN TO OAKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL THIS WEEK TO PLAY THE SPRINGFIELD (ILL.) HEADHUNTERS AT 7:00 PM ON JUNE 12, 2010. COME OUT FOR SOME GREAT MINOR LEAGUE FOOTBALL ACTION!!!!!
_______________________________________________________________ DAWGS WIN BIG ON THE ROAD! The Bulldogs stormed into Kaosland and came out victorious by scoring via the ground attack and through the air. Kicker Carter Rethwisch got the Dawgs on the scoreboard with a 53 yard Field Goal on the opening drive. Ironman Morris scored the first two TDs with very good runs and later on #28 Brandon Williamson delighted everyone with a "U can't tackle me" 45 yard TD run from scrimmage. Williamson broke several tackles on his way to pay dirt. QB Darrell Jackson got in on the scoring action with two great throws for TDs. WR Gary Johnson caught a 32 yard pass and WR Aaron Lowe scored on a 37 yard pass and run. For the second straight week, Special Teams got in on the scoring as well. Kick Returner Gary Johnson took one to the house from 90 yards away. His second 90 yard Touchdown gallop in two weeks. Again, the Big DDDD did their job and held the Kaos in check all game long. A couple of mis-communication errors led to the Kaos scores. Interceptions, fumble recoveries and defense stopped the Kaos in their tracks most of the night. Game balls to: Kicker Carter Rethwisch, WR/KR Gary Johnson, Ironman Morris, DB Marcus Dickinson, LB Andre Cooper, DL Mario Osborne, DEs Cleo Burnett & Jamar Crayton. The Bulldogs will travel again this week to play in Memphis against the Memphis Predators. Make the trip to Memphis and support the Bulldogs and also enjoy the Memphis In May Festivities. HOPE TO SEE ALL OUR FANS AT THE NEXT HOME GAME AT "THE DOG POUND" ON JUNE 5TH vs. THE MIGHTLY MIDWEST TITANS FROM KANSAS CITY AREA. _______________________ BULLDOGS WIN HOME OPENER!!!!
DA DAWGS BEAT THE ST. CHARLES CYCLONES 23 - 16 IN A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE FOR BRAGGING RIGHTS IN THE ST. LOUIS REGION. IT WAS ROUGH OFFENSIVELY, BUT WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE JOB DONE THROUGH AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE AND WITH OUTSTANDING PLAY BY OUR SPECIAL TEAMS. SPECIAL RECOGNITION GOES OUT TO KICK RETURNER GARY JOHNSON FOR AN OPENING 90 YARD KICK RETURN FOR A TOUCHDOWN. LB ANDRE COOPER SCORED ON A FUMBLE RECOVERY FOR A TD AND "IRONMAN" DEON MORRIS ALSO NOTCHED A TD IN THE LAST SECONDS OF THE GAME ON A FUMBLE RECOVERY. HATS OFF TO THE DEFENSE THAT KEPT DA DAWGS IN THE GAME! GAME BALLS GO TO: WR TONY KING, DB MARCUS DICKINSON, LB ANDRE COOPER, ROVER CLEO BURNETT, DEON MORRIS & GARY JOHNSON. ST. LOUIS BULLDOGS WILL RETURN TO PLAY AT OAKVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ON JUNE 5TH. THE NEXT TWO GAMES WILL BE ON THE ROAD IN KANSAS AND TENNESSEE.
GREAT FOOTBALL ACTION

The Bulldogs had an exciting two weeks to finish the NAFL quarter-final game against the Houston Gamblers. It included a bit of controversy. With a 16 hour drive to Houston for the NAFL Semi-Final the team caravanned down to Houston. About 6 hours out from Houston, car trouble slowed the team down putting them an hour behind schedule. With that, the Bulldogs called the Gamblers and asked if they could allow for an 8 p.m. start time, or should the Bulldogs forfeit and turn around to head back to St. Louis. The Gamblers said, bring it on, and the Bulldogs arrived at TSU Stadium 15 minutes before the new 8 p.m. game time. Barely having time to stretch, the Bulldogs started off slowly. Before the 1st quarter was over the Bulldogs found themselves down 14-0. The remaining 3 quarters would be a bit of a different story. By the beginning of the 2nd quarter the Bulldogs had now begun to loosen up from their 16 hour trip and shut down the Gamblers. In the second half the Bulldogs also shutdown the Gamblers and scored 2 touchdowns themselves. It made for a tie game at the end of regulation. OVERTIME! The Bulldogs won the toss and elected to receive. With a nice drive lead by 2009 All-Star quarterback Darrell Jackson the Bulldogs came up short and had to punt. All-Star running back and punter Deon Morris put the Gamblers at their own 12 yard line with a nice punt. A run stop by the Bulldogs and the Gamblers were still deep into their own territory. With another great effort from Bulldogs defense the Dawg’s appeared to have a sack back at the Gamblers 5 yard line. However, a shoulder nudge on the Gamblers receiver by Shuvez Williams down in the mid-field, 40 yards from the play was called by the referee, resulting in an automatic first down. It did seem that the nudge by Williams was not anywhere close to being part of the play, but the call was made. The Gamblers were back in business, first and 10 at their own 25. They continued down the field to the Bulldogs 16 yard line where they set-up to kick the game winning field goal. With that the Bulldogs called time-out to "ice the kicker". Then as if the story-line had been written by a Hollywood movie producer, the stadium lights went out. Both teams stayed on the field until after 11:30 p.m., waiting more than an hour to see if the lights would get turned back on. This was to no avail, so the game was officially "suspended". Finally the decision was made to have both teams drive to Nashville, the following weekend, set-up for the field goal where the game left off and see what happened. The winner would play at 7 p.m. against Nashville. With that the Bulldogs packed-up and headed to Nashville. The muddy field was quite a mess but the game was on. The Gamblers kicker thus far in the season was 2 for 5 with a long of 41 yards. This kick was going to be a 32 yarder. Both teams lined-up for this intense potentially game ending kick. The snap was good, the ball was down, the kick was up......... NO GOOD! Wide Left. The Bulldogs odds had just turned around. What an opportunity to move on after a controversial game where the lights went out. In a similar situation, 3 years prior in another NAFL game, the Bulldogs lights went out and they were informed, even while winning handily, the lights had to go back on or forfeit. Obviously a different decision was made here but, and at this point it did not matter. It seemed that everything had worked out for the Bulldogs. With that, the Bulldogs drove down the field, their 2009 All-Star Kicker, Carter Rethwisch, staying loose on the sidelines. With the ball on the Gamblers 45 yard line they were looking at 4th and a 62 yard field goal. Rethwisch game long is 53, so with a muddy field the Bulldogs elected to punt. Another great punt from Morris had the Gamblers pinned down at their own 10 yard line. With NFL rules in play, if time runs out in the overtime, a new overtime is started, the coin is flipped again and the game essentially starts over again with a kick-off. The clock had less than 25 seconds remaining so the Gamblers had to act fast or we were starting another overtime. With the Bulldogs defense prepared to sack the Gamblers quarterback in the end-zone for a game-winning safety. The Gamblers quarterback had one more long shot. With a quick move their wide receiver got a step on the Bulldogs defensemen, Shuvez Williams. A long pass was thrown to the Gamblers receiver just past the out-stretched arms of Bulldogs last defensement, St. Louis. With a muddy, sandy, and difficult terrain to traverse, the Gamblers receiver reached up and grabbed a well thrown pass, pulled down the ball for the reception and sprinted for the game winning overtime TD with only 5 seconds left on the clock. Game Over! What a disappointing loss for the Bulldogs who, had they had their game on to begin with would have played a tougher match back when the game started in Houston. Something to be said for leaving extra early, just in case. But as they say, that is the way the cookie crumbles. | |||||||||||||

Past Games: Past Games Summary Bulldogs Win Close One Against Kansas City Shockers 17-16 Final Score. The KC Shockers came in town with some confidence from a few big wins. This would be the third time the Bulldogs would face the Shockers this year. In football it is well established to beat the same team 2 times is difficult but to beat them 3 times is even tougher. The Bulldogs won game 1 in KC, 50 - 9. They then pulled off a 15-13 win in St. Louis. Match-up number 3 in St. Louis was going to be another battle like the previous St. Louis contest. The Bulldogs received the opening kick-off. Their first drive completed with a 33 yard TD pass from Darrell Jackson to Shuvez Williams to put the Bulldogs up 6-0. With the extra point it was 7-0. The Shockers countered with a TD of their own. The extra point was good to make a tied game, 7-7. The Shockers then added a field goal from 43 yard to take a 10-7 in the second quarter. With a missed field goal by the Bulldogs kicker, Carter Rethwish, the Bulldogs then stopped KC and took over in good field position. Darrell Jackson completed another TD pass, this time to Kevis Hamilton. With another extra point from Rethwisch the Bulldogs lead again 14-10. The Bulldogs lead at half-time. Early in the 3rd another 36 yard field goal from the Shockers kicker made it a one point game, 14-13. Early in the 4th quarter the Bulldogs shut down the Shockers offense again and took possession. With another strong drive the Bulldogs got in deep, but on 4th and 8 decided to take 3 points. Kicker Carter Rethwisch nailed a 29 yarder that put the Bulldogs up 17-13. The Shockers, who had only seen the endzone once brought the next possession down to the Dawgs 35 yard line. Their kicker came on again, this time to attempt a 52 yarder. It was good! The Bulldogs were clinging on to a 17-16 lead. After a 3 and out the Shockers took over on their own 15 with a nice punt from Deon Morris. A 15 yard late hit penalty by the Bulldogs and a couple nice plays from the Shockers put them on the Bulldogs 37 yard line. On 3rd down with less than a minute left in the game the Shockers could take one more shot at the end zone, or try to pick up some yards for a field goal that that was already in range. With a long toss to the Shocker wide-receiver in the end-zone the Bulldogs Shuvez Williams leaped and made an incredible interception at the 2 yard line, falling back into the end-zone. It was the Bulldogs ball on their own 2 yard line. With only 2 timeouts remaining for the Shockers the Bulldogs ran 3 short runs up the middle and the clock ran out. The Bulldogs win 17-16. Next up, the Bulldogs go on to face the Houston Gamblers in the quarter-finals in Houston, Texas. Giddy-up! Where my Dawgs at?!! HOUSTON, TEXAS!! | |||||||||||||
